I was looking for an inexpensive folding GPS drone that I could easily bring with me and deploy when I needed it. I purchased the Visuo XS812 based on the online reviews and recommendations and after owning this for about a month, I have to say I am really impressed. In my opinion, when it comes to flight quality (stability, range, etc) this has got to be one of the best folding brushed GPS drones in the sub $100.00 class. Setup is quick and easy, compass calibration is just as easy and the app works well. I have flown this drone in various conditions in various locations and I’m amazed at how much abuse from winds it was able to take. Of course this is not going to fight heavy winds like a brushless craft, but at least you don’t need a dead calm day to fly it. I was able to fly this drone out to its Geo Fence limit (200 meters) and its maximum height (about 75 meters) and never lost control or FPV. When you hit the range limit, the controller gives you three beeps and the drone won’t go any further. The FPV uses a 5 Ghz WiFi channel that not all phones in all countries can use, so be aware of that before you buy. I’m in the US using a Galaxy S9 with no problems. One thing with the app, when I first installed it, the units for distance and speed were in Feet and MPH. It recently changed to Meters and M/s. I can’t figure out how to change that back. The BIG disappointment however is the camera. It’s HORRIBLE!!! I bought the 5Mp version and sure the video is 1080p, but the bitrate is so low the images have very little detail and look really bad! And the really strange thing is the video only records in 1minute 35 second clips! That’s ridiculous!! I hope someone knows how to change that, or maybe I have a bad camera. I have $30.00 drones that take better video than this! Still pictures are pretty bad as well. Recently, I used the drone to inspect the top of my friend’s chimney for damage. It was great to be able to pull it out of the truck, unfold the arms and get it in the air very quickly. It was a calm day and because the drone is so stable, I was able to get up close and take some good pictures. I just wish the camera quality was better. If you’re looking for an entry level drone, or like me something quick and easy to deploy with great stability without breaking the bank, you can’t go wrong with the Visuo XS812. Improve the camera a little and this will be a real winner!
