BarryNY You probably need a better power supply. It should be rated at least 2.5A at 5v

Q: Is this unit actually rated at 10W?

gevraagd door Roy op 2019-11-05 08:59:59

BarryNY No. I have measured the output into a 50 ohm dummy load as 5 watts on both VHF and UHF bands. It is being misrepresented as a 10 watt radio when in fact it is not.

Q: Does this allow to hear firefighters and police communications?

BarryNY It covers the bands used by many public service agencies but can only receive unencrypted analog FM transmissions. WARNING: This unit will transmit on those frequencies, which would be illegal under all circumstances in the US as it is not certified by the FCC for those bands even by legitimate users of those frequencies.

BarryNY No. The battery is not compatible with other UV-5R models, and the recessed antenna connector prevents using aftermarket antennas such as the Nagoya 15" whip antenna.

BarryNY Yes, it covers both the 2 meter and 70 cm ham bands. It is not legal to use this radio in the US for GMRS or any other services. It can only be legally used by licensed amateur radio operators.
