This is an essential upgrade for the 183XX rc trucks. The stock plastic gears don't last very long. However, you also need to add shims to the outdrives if you want the metal gears to last. If you have any left-to-right play in the differential, the gears will separate and strip. Find some 12mm x 10mm shims (0.1 to 0.2 mm thick) and put them between the outdrive bearings and the differential housing until all the slop is gone. And don't forget to grease the gears!
