The Spring Steel picking blades are protected by a black layer of probably Iron(II,III)Oxide (Fe3O4, FeO∙Fe2O3), which can nicely be immersed, and soaked with Oil, melted Vaseline, Wax and boiled Linseed Oil etc. for added surface protection. The Stainless Steel handles are nicely riveted with Brass eyes, and the tool feels heavy, with a very solid and sturdy build.
