I have this setup with the sonoff bridge. The range seems to be pretty good after a few months though the battery is dead, i think it was about 3 months only. I bought rechargeable batteries since more smart home devices seem to be going with batteries now and for good reason, sometimes it's just easier and the only power source. However, for a smoke detector the battery should last way longer than that. Will see how long the rechargeable battery lasts.
