While I understand the rationale behind the flap seal, I have concerns about how tight the seal will be and how long the vacuum will hold. One the other hand, you wouldn't expect to keep a roll of filament in there for months so combined with a desiccant satchel, it should be fine. I packed up a roll and tried out the pump, worked great, took about 2 minutes to vacate 90% of the air.

It works, seals good, pump is smaller than I expected from the illustrative picture but big enough for the job. Bags are just the right size for 1kg filament.
